Bible Verses for Anxiety
When worry tightens its grip, God's Word offers a place to rest. These verses are gentle reminders that you were never meant to carry tomorrow's weight alone. Read one slowly, breathe, and let the promise settle before you move to the next.
“Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.”
Philippians 4:6 (KJV)"Careful" here is the old word for anxious — Paul is saying worry about nothing, pray about everything. Notice the small hinge in the middle: thanksgiving. Gratitude is how a worried prayer becomes a trusting one.
“And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 4:7 (KJV)This peace doesn't come after the problem is solved — it "passeth understanding" precisely because it arrives while nothing makes sense yet. The word "keep" is a soldier's word: peace stands guard at the door of your mind.
“Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.”
1 Peter 5:7 (KJV)Not some of your care — all of it. Peter gives the reason plainly: you can hand it over because you are cared for, not because the problem is small.
“Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.”
Matthew 6:34 (KJV)Jesus never promises tomorrow will be easy — He tells you to leave it where it is. Anxiety borrows pain from a day that hasn't come; grace is issued one day at a time.
“Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.”
Isaiah 41:10 (KJV)Count how many times God says "I" in this one verse. The answer to fear is not effort but presence — five personal promises stacked on top of each other.
“Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.”
Psalm 55:22 (KJV)David wrote this while being betrayed by a close friend. "Cast" is a throwing word — this is permission to stop carrying something gently and simply let it go onto stronger shoulders.
“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”
John 14:27 (KJV)These are parting words, spoken hours before the cross — a will and testament, and what Jesus chose to leave behind was peace. The world gives peace that depends on circumstances; His doesn't.
“Heaviness in the heart of man maketh it stoop: but a good word maketh it glad.”
Proverbs 12:25 (KJV)Scripture named the physical weight of anxiety three thousand years before psychology did — it makes a person stoop. And the remedy it offers is disarmingly small: one good word. Sometimes you need to receive one; sometimes you are the one meant to speak it.
