Bible Verses About Faith
Faith is trusting God before you see the outcome. These verses call you to believe not because the path is clear, but because the One who leads you is trustworthy. However small your faith feels today, bring it to Him — He honors even a mustard seed.
“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”
Hebrews 11:1 (KJV)The Bible's only formal definition of faith, and it's strikingly concrete: substance and evidence — courtroom words. Faith isn't a leap into the dark; it's confidence resting on the character of the One who promised.
“But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”
Hebrews 11:6 (KJV)Two beliefs, that's the whole entry requirement: that God is, and that seeking Him is worth it. Notice what pleases God is not performance but trust.
“For we walk by faith, not by sight.”
2 Corinthians 5:7 (KJV)Seven words that describe the entire Christian life. Walking is slow, repeated, unglamorous — faith isn't one heroic decision but thousands of small steps taken without seeing the whole road.
“...If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.”
Matthew 17:20 (KJV)Jesus deliberately picked the smallest seed His hearers knew. The point isn't to feel bad about small faith — it's that the size of your faith matters far less than the size of the God it's placed in.
“Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.”
Mark 11:24 (KJV)Bold words about prayer, spoken by the One who also prayed "not what I will, but what thou wilt." Praying with expectation and praying with surrender are not opposites — Jesus did both.
“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God.”
Ephesians 2:8 (KJV)Even the faith is a gift — you don't manufacture the very thing that saves you. This verse removes both the pressure to earn and the grounds to boast.
“So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”
Romans 10:17 (KJV)This is the practical answer to "how do I get more faith?" — you feed it. Faith grows through exposure to the Word, which means the quietest path to stronger faith is simply more time hearing it.
