Bible Verses About Love
Before you ever loved Him, God loved you. These verses trace a love that is patient, sacrificial, and impossible to earn or lose. Let them reshape how you see yourself — and how you love the people around you.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
John 3:16 (KJV)The most famous sentence in Scripture, and its engine is a single verb: gave. Love, in God's grammar, is measured by what it hands over — and "whosoever" means the door has no list beside it.
“We love him, because he first loved us.”
1 John 4:19 (KJV)Seven words that settle the order of everything: His love is the cause, ours is the response. You never have to love your way into being loved.
“Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.”
1 John 4:7 (KJV)John begins the command with its foundation — "Beloved." You are asked to give only what you have already been called. Love for others is treated here as family resemblance: evidence of whose child you are.
“...God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.”
1 John 4:16 (KJV)Not merely that God loves, but that God is love — it's His nature, not His mood. Which means His love for you doesn't fluctuate with your performance, because it was never sourced in you.
“For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Romans 8:38-39 (KJV)Paul writes out the longest list he can imagine — time, space, powers, death itself — precisely so you can add your own worst fear to it and watch it fail too. Nothing on the list can do it; nothing off the list can either.
“Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.”
John 15:13 (KJV)Jesus defined the ceiling of love the night before He met it Himself. He wasn't describing a theory; He was announcing His intention.
“Hatred stirreth up strifes: but love covereth all sins.”
Proverbs 10:12 (KJV)Covering isn't pretending nothing happened — it's choosing not to keep re-opening the wound for an audience. Hatred needs conflict to stay alive; love is willing to let a matter die.
